The wind energy sector is hoping that for some growth in consonance with the Centre's objective of giving a push to clean energy.Speaking to City Express, Indian Wind Power Association Chairman K Kasturirangan said that the Centre should continue the two decade-old tax rebate regime for investments made in setting up wind mills. “We heard that the Centre was contemplating to take back this concession. This should not happen,” he said. He argued that that lots of industries invested more to meet their energy requirements. “This is clean, renewable energy. Now, the accent is on renewables. When compared with diesel-run generators, wind farms are obviously the better choice.”Also, the Generation Based Incentive (GBI) for domestic and foreign investors should continue. Similarly, funds from the Central Clean Energy Fund should be disbursed to Tamil Nadu to set up electricity evacuation infrastructural facilities for the wind sector. “Now, the transmission infrastructure is inadequate to transport the electricity generated from wind mills. The Centre should be pragmatic, understand the financial status of the EB and support Tamil Nadu in setting up infrastructural facilities,” Kasturirangan said and added that such measures would go a long way in the ensuring the energy security of the nation. He said the association expected the Union to roll out announcements in the budget that would help promote the overall growth of wind energy, including existing concessions.
