Three mistakes found in CAT paper
Admissions Chairman of IIM-Calcutta Ashis Bhattacharya says justice will be ensured for all students.

Kolkata: Three mistakes have been found in the question paper of the Common Admission Test (CAT) conducted on Sunday for admission into the six prestigious Indian Institutes of Management and several other B-schools.

Admissions Chairman of IIM-Calcutta Ashis Bhattacharya says that three mistakes had been found in the CAT paper that consisted of 75 questions.

Bhattacharya, who is a member of the CAT group that conducts admission procedure, said a decision would be taken after evaluation of the papers and ensured that the students will get "fair justice".

However, he ruled out conducting the examination afresh.

The results of CAT, that was taken by nearly two lakh students across the country, are expected in January.

Experts say this year's paper marked a clear shift in the format and made clear what IIMs are actually looking for in their students.

Unlike previous years, where cracking CAT was all about speed and accuracy this year's CAT was all about reasoning and logical thinking.

"The paper has become more reasoning based and it requires the student to think a lot more and not direct application," CAT expert Amit Deshmukh said.

Also marking a change from previous years, experts say Math in this year's CAT was relatively easy but English was relatively tougher.

"Possibly the IIMs want students to have more language skills. Possibly they believe that language skills are a more important attribute to become a manager," another CAT expert Manish Salian says.

Most coaching institutes predict that students will have to score around 100 marks to get an interview call from IIMs. They predict a score of 25-30 in verbal ability, 30-35 in data interpretation and 40-45 in quantitative aptitude for clearing the sectional cut-offs.
