Dr Kunal Sarkar, who appeared before Kolkata Police after being summoned for allegedly “spreading wrong information” on the investigation of the RG Kar doctor rape and murder case, has said that he is paying for his video, adding he did not reveal the identity of the victim as was being claimed by the police.
Speaking to News18, Dr Sarkar said that he only questioned as to what the investigating agencies were doing in his video and was trying to convince doctors to come to work.
“This type of intimidation is not right by police. The entire medical fraternity has not taken this lightly. We are not murder suspects, why did they summon us like that,” Dr Sarkar questioned.
He called the August 9 case a “double rape” saying while the girl was raped and murdered, so was “our system.” “It was the day when a bomb fell on Hiroshima too. We are very angry with what happened. This was also an atomic explosion on public morality. We stay happy in our place, but our life was shattered after this barbaric act inside the hospital,” Dr Sarkar added.

He also said that people were “massively disappointed” with the role of the police in the RG Kar Medical College case. “This is not Tunisia. There is insecurity anxiety. When we go back home and see our children, we wonder if it’s our turn next. Our police forces are capable of solving anything, but are they getting opportunity to work? Every public institution is public property, why is there this atmosphere of corruption,” he questioned.
Expressing disappointment over West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Dr Sarkar said, “We had expectation from the CM, she came out of oblivion. She understands people, she has defeated the Centre twice. But people are in grief and there is disappointment. We thought she was with us but no.” “We look forward to her, she has been with the people, we appeal to her, it is she who can comfort people, who can put the house in order,” he added.
“We are not into politics. Work has to go on. This city has high population density. We have to protest against the government, not people. We are like fire brigade,” Dr Sarkar said.
Dr Sarkar and Dr Subarno Goswami were summoned for allegedly spreading rumours and disclosing the identity of the woman doctor.
