VIJAYAWADA: The three-day Second World Telugu Writers' Conference concluded here on Monday. The meeting resolved to form a world Telugu writers' federation to protect the language.Writers who took part in the conference revival of Telugu language should start right from village level, by conducting Telugu language meetings in every village once a month. They also demanded that Telugu be made a compulsory subject in schools and priority be given to Telugu folk arts. Newspapers and movies should protect the language, they observed. Other demands are inclusion of the Telugu language in official correspondence of the state government. The writers expressed concern over the government's failure to appoint a person for the Official Languages committee. The writers' conference honorary president Mandali Buddhaprasad moved the resolutions.Participating as the chief guest of the concluding session, High Court judge Grandhi Bhavani Prasad stressed the need for writings to reflect present-day problems. He opined that Telugu language should be diluted to reach the common man.Lok Satta president Jayaprakash Narayan, noted Hindi and Bengali writer Prof Indranath Chowdary, Golla Narayana Rao and others were present. Later cultural programmes including the Jayaho Krishna Devaraya dance ballet were organised at the Tummalapalli Kshetraiah Kalakshetram.
