Hyderabad: An Indian man working in the United States is battling for life after being shot at by robbers on January 3.

The condition of Sai Krishna, an electrical engineer and a Telangana resident, is critical. His cousin said he is currently on ventilator support and will have to undergo multiple surgeries.

Krishna had moved to the US for better employment opportunities. He completed his engineering from Lawrence Tech University, Southfield Michigan before starting work at a Detroit-based firm.

“Sai Krishna is underprivileged and has struggled a lot to move to the United States for a better future. After completing his studies, he started working at a company in Detroit downtown. He got off from work around 11:30 pm and purchased some food on the street and while returning home this incident happened,” Krishna’s friend Srujith told news agency ANI.

Srujith said the robbers forcefully sat in Krishna’s car and made him drive to an isolated place and robbed him off all his belongings. They fired three rounds at him, severely injuring him, and fled with his wallet and car.

To meet his medical and rehabilitation expenses, Krishna’s friends have launched a crowdfunding campaign ‘Support Sai Krishna’ on GoFundMe. So far, the campaign has received US$ 124,738 out of the US$ 250,000 sought and the campaign is trending.
