Howrah: A teenage girl was on Monday found in an unconscious state within the Kolkata Botanical Garden premises at Shibpur in Howrah district.
A police officer said preliminary investigation revealed that the girl hails from Murshidabad district and belongs to the age group of 15-17.
The girl who was found lying senseless by a security guard was bleeding profusely.
The victim, who has been hospitalised, has told police that she was lured by some young men who offered her a job and shelter in Howrah.
Locals says that the girl was spotted in the garden with some young men.
It is not clear who accompanied her to the garden, which is now officially called Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose Indian Botanic Garden, police said.
To a question if the girl was sexually assaulted as claimed by some tv channels, the officer said there was no confirmation in this regard so far and investigations were on.
