VISAKHAPATNAM: A 31-year-old woman died after a botched sleeve gastrectomy surgery at Seven Hills hospital on Tuesday. The issue only came to light after relatives of the deceased enquired the mode of treatment given by doctors to her on Wednesday. Sleeve gastrectomy is a surgical weight-loss procedure. Haripriya died on Tuesday night but doctors did not inform Haripriya’s parents about her death. Shockingly, doctors who hid the truth of patient’s death till Wednesday morning demanded clearing of pending bills of Haripriya’s treatment.Sources said B Haripriya (31), a software employee in a IT company in Bangalore came to Visakhapatnam few days ago and was admitted to Seven Hills Hospital for sleeve gastrectomy treatment on Monday. Doctors at the hospital performed the surgery on Monday. But the doctors allegedly did not perform the surgery properly resulting in heavy bleeding of the patient.To control the bleeding, doctors then performed a bypass surgery on Haripriya without informing her relatives and injected about 30 units blood into her, the relatives alleged.While injecting the blood to Haripriya, some relatives became suspicious but doctors told them that they are monitoring the blood pressure of Haripriya, relatives said. On Wednesday, relatives of Haripriya staged a protest alleging medical negligence by the hospital. After heated arguments between relatives of Haripriya and the management of the Hospital, police was deployed.
