This man is none other than Sachin Tendulkar, who along with the entire cricket team has visited Imran's super-speciality cancer hospital to cheer up some patients on the occasion of Id. The Indian team looked pleased to be there and the patients, on their part were overjoyed, because the Pakistani's, not unlike us Indians are very passionate about the game. And when it comes to Sachin, words like LOC don't matter. The people's love and affection for him cuts across boundaries and is universal.
This ultra-modern cancer hospital tucked away in a suburb of Lahore is Imran's dream come true. It's evident that Imran has poured his entire life and ambition into making it one of the best cancer facilities in Asia. The most heartening thing for me was to discover that the hospital gives a 70% discount on the bill to the country's poor. As the team gathered in the hospital Imran said that this visit brought back a lot of memories especially the charity match the Indian team had played at the foundation of the hospital in 1989. He added that since then, everyone, be it filmstars or politicians had come forward to help, whenever needed.
Coming back to the subject of cricket, in less than 48 hours India and Pakistan will be locking horns against each other. People in the media (like me) are busy discussing team composition, wickets or strategy, but having observed both teams from close quarters I feel they are very aware of the kind of fight they are going to put up and what strategy to follow and obviously they are keeping this information close to their chest.
Pak has given some hints as to what their plans are. I was surprised to see that the Gaddafi Pitch was not green (as is being reported everyday) but had a fairly dry look.
The message is loud and clear. Pak doesn't want to take a chance. Inzamam and Co will rely more on reverse swing from Shoaib and Co. rather than opting for normal swing.
I believe this wil be the series where both teams will apply as much pressure as possible on each other- and the first one who blinks, will be the final loser.first published:January 11, 2006, 19:49 ISTlast updated:January 11, 2006, 19:49 IST

Thirteen-year-old Huma is lying in her bed in Imran Khan's cancer hospital in Lahore. Having just gotten through the third stage of chemotherapy, she is completely bald; her eyebrows have fallen off too. Lying listlessly in bed, she seems to have no life left in her, no will to live and then a smiling 5'5 inch man , from across the border walks into her room and her face lights up, like it hasnt done in quite a while.
