Taviani brothers to get lifetime achievement award
Taviani brothers, the Italian directors Paulo Taviani and Vittorio Taviani will be honoured at the 17th IFFK.

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 7: Taviani brothers, the renowned Italian directors Paulo Taviani and Vittorio Taviani, who together made many noted films, will be honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the 17th International Film Festival of Kerala, to be held here from December 7 to 14.

Paulo and Vittorio Taviani have always worked together in their career spanning more than four decades and have won several awards, including Palme d'Or at the Cannes festival in 1977 for their film 'The Night of the Shooting Stars'.

Their latest film 'Caesar Must Die,' which won the 'Golden Bear' award at the Berlin International Film Festival this year, would be screened at the IFFK.

Vittorio Taviani has confirmed that he would be attending the inaugural function as the Chief guest, Kerala State Chalachitra Academy sources said.

A package of nine films by the master of thrillers Alfred Hitchcock would be another attraction at the Festival. Noted Australian director Paul Cox would be the chairman of the Jury to select the winner of the 'Suvarna Chakoram' (Golden Crow Pheasant) and other awards from the international competition section.

Five films by Cox would also be screened at the festival. In the 'Country Focus' section, four films from Vietnam would be screened.

'Amour,' this year's Palme d'Or Winner at Cannes by Michael Haneke (Austria/France/Germany) and 'Pieta,' the 2012 film by renowned South Korean director Kim Ki Duk would be the notable attraction in the 'World Cinema' section.
