TALCHER: Eight colliery colonies of Talcher coalfield are facing acute water shortage for the past two days. The workers are forced to purchase water with no supply since Thursday.“Never before did we face such a situation. The kids had to leave for school and we for office without taking a bath,” said a worker of Deulbera colliery.Lingaraj area authorities of MCL, which looks after the water supply to the colonies here, blamed Samal barrage authorities for the crisis as it had stopped supply to the river making the intake site dry.Samal barrage Sub-Divisional Officer A K Pani said the water was instead diverted to canals for irrigation. The supply was resumed on Thursday night, he added. The taps in the colonies, however, are still running dry.The problem is being attributed to lack of coordination between the Samal barrage and colliery authorities as the Lingaraj area was not informed earlier of the change in plans. MCL draws water from the Brahmani river.
