CHENNAI: With a view to facilitating regular interaction between the public and civic authorities for a healthy participation in governance, T Nagar Exnora Innovators Club on Saturday organised a grievances meet at Raja Street, T Nagar. The face-to-face meet was presided over by T Nagar Constituency MLA V P Kalairajan and attended by N Manohar, Zonal Officer, Zone-10, Corporation of Chennai; T Velmurugan, Area Engineer, Area-10 Chennai Metro Water; Uma Shankar, EE – T Nagar, TNEB and Tamilselvan, Assistant Commissioner or Police, T Nagar Range. The event was graced by V Saravanan, Councillor Division – 136, Chennai Corporation. R Govindaraj, Joint Secretary and Anand Laxman, Senator, Exnora International, coordinated the civic meet.Residents, who took part in the meet raised several issues such as improper collection of garbage in various streets of Division 136, traffic congestion, bad condition of roads after rains, water logging during the rainy season, encroachment and mosquito infestation, with the government authorities.R Sridharan, President, Raja Street Civic Exnora,  said one of their key concerns was the mushrooming of several eateries in Sivaprakasam and Sivagnanam Road in T Nagar. “They not only cause health hazards, but also dump their waste into the sewers, which results in clogging and overflowing of sewage,” said Sridharan. Swaminathan of Girifith Road pointed out that the residents face regular low voltage problems in the area and requested the TNEB officials to explore the possibility of installing a transformer in the area.Residents from  Bazullah Road, Gandhi Street, Wasan Street, Maharajapuram Santhanam Salai, Rangan Street, Mothilal Street, Madely Road, Thandapani Street, Lakshmanan Street, Gopalakrishnan Street, Nana Street, Masilamani Street, Mylai Ranganathan Street, Jagadeeswarar Street, Jawaharlal Nehru Street, Natesan Street, Mahalakshmi Street, Pinjala Subramanian Street, Jegathambal Street, Yogambal Street, Singaram Street and other surrounding areas, submitted petitions relating to civic issues in their locality to the MLA.Their grievances included bad condition of roads, encroachments on platforms, mosquito infestation, water logging during rainy season, non-desilting of storm-water drains, improper collection of garbage and other such issues.Officials from the Chennai Corporation, Chennai Metro Water and Tamil Nadu Electricity Board confirmed the status of the several projects and promised to rectify the problems as soon as possible. Kalairajan, in his concluding remarks, promised to take action regarding the issues raised by the residents in the meet. He informed that a proposal to modernise the T Nagar Bus Terminus is already under progress and that he had allocated money from the MLA's funds for the project. With regard to the other grievances, Kalairajan promised to discuss them with the respective officials and ensure that they were solved as early as possible.
