Syndicate with A Sweet Tooth: 3 Arrested in Kerala for Stealing Chocolate, Ice Cream Worth Rs 1 Lakh

Kerala police arrested three members of a gang including a minor in two incidents of stealing chocolate and ice cream worth more than Rs 1 lakh from two shops in the northern part of the state.

Fazal Rahman and B Vivish, both 19, of Kushal Nagar locality in Kanhangad city, and a 17-year-old from a nearby coastal village were arrested by Hosdurg police in Kasargod district.

Officials said the fourth member of the gang, 23-year-old Asif, had escaped to Goa and efforts were on to nab him.

According to Hosdurg police in Kasargod, the youngsters stole the eatables for their own consumption.

They were arrested in an incident of breaking into a shop in Kanhangad and stealing chocolates worth Rs 42,430. On questioning, they admitted to taking ice cream from a shop a few days ago.

On January 14, the gang stole chocolates and Rs 1,680 from Monarch Enterprises in Kotacherry. The theft was caught on the CCTV camera of a nearby garment shop.

In the visuals, it was clear that a young man wearing blue jeans and a light-coloured shirt was standing guard while two other youths broke the shutters to enter the shop.

After checking the CCTV footage, the police found that the same gang was behind the robbery that took place at the Karavali Marketing ice cream godown in Vadakaramukk in Kanhangad a few days ago. Ice cream worth Rs 70,000 was stolen from here.

Officials said that the robbery at the ice cream godown was committed by three members of the gang, excluding Fazal Rahman.

The security camera footage from both places helped the police in their investigation.
