CHENNAI: The police caught a group of children, purportedly aged between 10 and 15 years, who were seen indulging in substance abuse on the Thiruvanmiyur Beach on Friday.According to an eyewitness who did not wish to be named, the walkers and regular visitors to the beach noticed the kids indulging in substance abuse and alerted the police. A police contingent arrived at the spot and detained the children. L Moorthy, Sub Inspector of Police, Thiruvanmiyur Station, told Express that the kids were found inhaling the fumes of adhesive solutions. They were brought to the station and their parents summoned. “We gave them and their parents a stern warning and let them off,” the SI said. He said that the children came to the city with their parents from Thiruvannamalai. The mother of one of the kids, who was summoned by the police, is a construction worker. She reportedly told police that the boys had been indulging in substance abuse for the past two years. Attempts by her to reform her child had proved futile.
