BALASORE: The deferment of High School Certificate (HSC) examinations after the leakage of question papers has been protested by the student community across the district. Worried over the delay in the examination process, parents said this would have an impact on their wards’ performance. They have demanded criminal proceedings against the erring officials responsible for it.Hundreds of students, along with their parents, on Thursday stormed the zonal office of Board of Secondary Education (BSE) here and staged a demonstration protesting the government’s decision to cancel the examination. While the examinees in Mayurbhanj district took to the streets, the students of Tolamtola High School and Betada High School blocked the Jamujhadi-Dhamra State highway for hours demanding stringent action against the school authorities from where the question papers were looted.“How could the miscreants zero in on the cupboard in which question papers were kept out of several others in the school? It is impossible without insider’s involvement,” said a social activist Dilip Kumar Parida. He said only suspension of officials is not sufficient, they should be arrested immediately as lakhs of examinees would now bear the brunt. The board would have to bear the extra expenditure of around Rs 2 crore only due to the callousness of the school authorities, he added. Meanwhile, the students have demanded the BSE to set the examinations on alternate days.
