PUDUCHERRY: As the counselling for B.Tech courses began in the Union Territory on Thursday, a student, who had secured admission at the prestigiuous Indira Gandhi Medical College and Research Institute under the Karaikal quota surrendered her MBBS seat and opted for an engineering course.Manimeghalai opted for Electronics and Communication Engineering course in Pondicherry Engineering College,under MBC quota, when the B.Tech counselling session began for all categories. Interestingly, three other students also gave up their MBBS seats in self-financing medical colleges and opted for engineering seats.As many as 330 seats in engineering colleges were filled up through counseling sessions by Centac in two days , including 137 seats, which were filled up today. Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) seems to be the most preferred stream for students. The next preference has been Mechanical for boys while girls preferred Computer Science. Pondicherry engineering college (PEC) is the most- preferred college followed by the self-financing Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College. As many as 222 seats out of 382 seats in PEC have been filled and 160 seats remain vacant to be taken up for counselling on Friday. Most of the seats under General category in PEC have been filled up and only a few seats in Civil, Chemical and Electronics and Instrumentation are available to students as of now.
