BANGALORE: Minister for Primary and Secondary Education Vishveshwara Hegde Kageri stressed on publicising Swami Vivekananda thoughts across the state.Speaking at the 150th birth anniversary celebrations of Swami Vivekananda, organised by the Department of Pre University Education on Thursday in Bangalore, Kageri said that the state government will observe one year Swami Vivekananda Campaign starting on Thursday till January 12, 2013 with the purpose of spreading the Swami’s thoughts. In this regard, Swami Vivekananda thoughts will be taught at various schools and colleges across the state to create awareness among children and youths from all fields. Kageri, said they have set up a think-tank under the chairmanship of Law Minister S Suresh Kumar to chalk out programmes for the next year. The committee will submit a report which will be implemented in a phased manner. However, he said that publicising Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts in schools and colleges alone was not sufficient. “There is a need to spread his messages in residential areas. For this, the local cultural and resident welfare associations should come forward,” he urged. He added that the state should be the first to implement the Swami’s thoughts in the mindsets of the people. “We should all become role models in this regard for other states across the country,” he added. He said that normally patriotism is more seen among youths, which needs to be instilled among the people of other age groups too. “We are still following the British education system and our children are studying for the sake of jobs. But there is a need to have a vision in our education system and Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts will help us to a large extent,” he added.
