New Delhi: Delhi Commission for Women has issued a show-cause notice to St Stephens College principal Valson Thampu asking him why no action has been taken against a professor accused of sexually harassing a student.
Thampu has one week to reply to the show-cause notice. DCW has observed that the college did not complete the enquiry within the stipulated time of 90 days as per Sexual Harassment at Workplace Act.
DCW has accused the college of barring the complainant from accessing research material for her course. DCW in its notice has claimed that college has not provided any relief to the complainant as mandated by law.
The women's commission took cognisance of Thampu's Facebook post where the college principal wrote that 'how a 85% disabled man could sexually harass a girl'. Based on the post, DCW has accused Thampu of personal vendetta against the complainant of sexual harassment.
The girl had approached police in July 2015, alleging she was molested by Satish Kumar, a Chemistry professor with 85 per cent disability.
She had also accused Thampu of "shielding" the assistant professor when the matter was reported to him. The allegations against Thampu, prompted certain sections of students, teachers and women rights group to demand his resignation.
