Sangakkara's wife who is expecting their first child is reportedly shocked.

New Delhi: The pride of Pakistan cricket, the Gaddafi stadium has seen many cricket battles being fought. But on Tuesday it became a venue for rescuing Sri Lankan players.

The SL players had travelled to the stadium to beat their opponents in a match but they ended up becoming the latest victims of terror. CNN-IBN has reactions of the Sri Lankan squad after they survived the sinister plot by terrorists in Pakistan.

Kumar Sangakkara was among the players who were injured. His wife is expecting their first child and she along with the families of the other injured players were expectedly shocked. So was the cricket community at home.

"It was all of a sudden and there was no warning. But I do not regret coming to play cricket. Of Course I regret what has happened." Sangakkara told CNN-IBN on phone.

"It is a very bad situation and we are very sad about it," said Hashan Tillakeratne, the Sri Lankan cricketer.

This tour of Sri Lankan team had been hastily organised only after India pulled out. Sri Lanka had played three one-day games in Pakistan and then returned for this two test series. Having been promised foolproof security, the Sri Lankan players never imagined they would come under direct attack.

"It is a terrible situation. One never expect that terrorists to attack sportsmen. When something like this happens, we feel extremely lucky that there were no critical injuries,” said Sri Lanka team manager Brendon Kuruppu.

Kuruppu insists officials were right to take the team to Pakistan in spite of the attack on the team in Lahore.

But this experience must have been a life-changing one for the Sri Lankan team members.

What's your reaction?
