Soldier shoots himself with rifle in J&K

Jammu: A soldier posted at Ramban in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir committed suicide by shooting himself with his service rifle on Friday, official sources said.

Havildar Sher Singh of 23 Rashtriya Rifles of the counter insurgency wing of the Indian Army shot himself at around 3:00 pm (IST) official sources said.

The soldier had returned from home leave a few days ago.

The sources added that, presumably, domestic pressures played a role in his taking the drastic step.

There have been at least half-a-dozen cases of fratricidal killings or suicides by soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir in the past few weeks.
