BHUBANESWAR: The Plus Two examination results may have signaled the end of the domination of the big trio - BJB College, Ravenshaw College and Rama Devi Women’s College. Once ruling the toppers chart, the three have been pushed to a minority, while the smaller and lesser known colleges have begun to take their place. In Science stream, Saraswati Vidyamandir in Nilakantha Nagar of the City bagged the top honours with at least seven of its students in the top-20 which featured 44 candidates. BJB Junior College had five (including the topper) while Ravenshaw College had four. The RD Women’s College did not figure at all in the list. On the other hand, students from colleges from centres such as Balasore, Berhampur, Nayagarh and Athagarh managed to leave their mark among the top slots. In fact, private colleges such as Royal College of Science and Technology, KIIT Science College, Vikash Junior College, Kalinga Bharati Residential College, Naidu Plus Two Science College, Irodov College of Science and Pratik Science College featured prominently among the top-20.Of the 32 who figured in the top-20 of Arts stream, BJB and Ravenshaw Colleges had just six. FM College of Balasore bagged four slots. In fact, major colleges had just 10 of their students while students from colleges from Rasalpur, Dunguripalli, Choudwar, Balangir, Madhuban, Nalco Nagar, Gadia, Nuagaon, Dasapalla and Bijepur managed to enter the elite list.In the Commerce stream, KBR College, a private one, had seven of its candidates among the top-20 (which featured 37). This is the only stream in which major colleges of the State managed to hold their fort.It was Saraswati Vidyamandir, Nilakantha Nagar which took the results by storm. While the RSS-backed schools have been dominating the high school certificate examinations in the last few years, this year’s Plus Two Examination has shown their improved performance.
