Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh Home Minister K Jana Reddy said on Saturday that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) would be formed to probe into the whole gamut of supply of rockets and rocket launchers to the Maoists and other insurgent groups in the state.
Talking to newspersons, after a review meeting with Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy on the recent arms haul, Reddy said the SIT would also examine if rockets and launchers were being manufactured in the state.
Appreciating the good work done by the state police, the Home Minister said the Tamil Nadu police had raided several manufacturing units in the Ambattur area on the outskirts of Chennai and arrested seven people involved in the crime, based on the information provided by the Andhra Pradesh police.
Reddy asserted that the combing operations in the state would continue, despite the demand by certain civil liberties organizations to stop it.
Earlier, in the meeting with Chief Minister, the Director General of Police Swaranjeet Sen said the seizure of rockets and launchers had proved that insurgents, particularly the Maoists, were out to indulge in destructive activities and widespread violence.
He appealed to journalists and civil liberties activists to understand the true nature of naxal activities and support the police in eliminating the menace.
