Mumbai: Just a day after the Mumbai Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (MMRDA) announced it's new rental housing scheme, Shiv Sena Executive President Uddhav Thackeray on Wednesday threatened to oppose the scheme.
Shiv Sena claims new rental housing scheme doesn't give preference to Maharashtrians.
The Sena has also warned against taking to streets if the authority didn't withdraw the scheme.
Shiv Sainiks feel that the scheme will encourage outsiders to settle in Mumbai and thus raise the number of slum dwellers.
"They are working against Maharashtrian people and the Municipal Corporation. Fifteen-year domicile certificate must be necessary. MMRDA has removed it from their regulation," claims Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut.
MMRDA on Tuesday announced the cheapest ever rental accommodation project in collaboration with real estate giant HDIL that will provide 43,000 homes at a rent starting as low as Rs 800 per month.
The project aimed at reducing the number of slums in Mumbai.
