The ongoing internal strife going on in several political parties reached CPI on Saturday with its Central Committee member and former MP Shatrughan Prasad Singh resigning from the party.
The 73-year-old leader's one line resignation letter was addressed to CPI state secretary Rajendra Prasad Singh and has been sent to the state headquarters of the party.
"Shatrughan Prasad Singh's letter just says that he is resigning from the membership of the party. It is of just one sentence," CPI acting secretary Jabbar Alam said.
Sources said the CPI leader, who had won from the erstwhile Balia Lok Sabha constituency (now Begusarai) in 1996, was miffed over the denial of the ticket.
Incidentally, the ticket has been given to the left party's secretary to whom the resignation letter has been addressed.
"The decision was taken by the central leadership of the party. Shatrughan Prasad Singh had lost Parliament elections four times in a row since late 1998. I hope he will reconsider his decision to leave the party," CPI state executive member U N Mishra said.
Shatrughan could not be contacted for his reaction as his cell phone was switched off and his party people did not know about his whereabouts.
