A 15-year-old student died as a result of corporal punishment allegedly by his teacher.
The student was hospitalised a few days ago when he complained of ill health due to the severe punishment inflicted on him and he breathed his last on Thursday.
The boy, Mohammed Ismail, was a student of Class 10 at Royal Embassy High School in Santoshnagar area of the city. His father, Siddiqe Hussain, is a realtor and resident of Dobhighat.
According to the police, the teacher punished Ismail on September 4 asking him to do 30 situps in each of the seven class-hours during the day for being negligent. “After reaching home, Ismail’s parents found that he had fever and took him to the local hospital,” said KN Surya Prakash, Madannapet inspector.
Ismail was shifted to two other hospitals, including a private hospital at Puranapul where he succumbed to the illness. “A preliminary probe revealed that Ismail had poor health after developing some complications with his two legs and was unable to walk. His parents came to know of the reason for his failing health much later. We are still investigating the matter and will take stern action against the teacher after receiving the postmortem report,” said the inspector.
SCHOOL ATTACKED: Tension prevailed at Ismail’s school when his father Siddique and family members attacked the school and ransacked the furniture and computers.
Police, alerted by the school management, rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.
The deceased’s father Siddique alleged that his son died as a result of the punishment imposed by the teacher Mubin.
The school management refused to meet the family when they brought the incident to their notice.
Later, Siddique lodged a complaint with the Madannapet police who registered a case against the teacher, Mubin, as well as the school management under Section 304 (A) (Causing death by negligence).
