New Delhi: It's the first time a senior government official has been summoned by the Supreme Court for explanation.

The apex court has summoned the Delhi police commissioner K K Paul and DCPS of areas where the police did not cooperate with the MCD during the sealing drive on April 3, April 4 and April 9.

The MCD officials had asked for protection. The court has also asked the Union Government to file an affidavit stating the steps taken for the implementation on the master plan 2021.

A three-member Bench of justices - Arijit Pasayat, C K Thakkar and L C Panta- also directed the MCD commissioner to file an affidavit as to why no sealing operation was being carried out in the Capital.

The Bench passed the directions after taking a serious view of the submission made by court officer Ranjit Kumar's complaint that no sealing operation was being carried out in the city on account of the ‘collusion’ between the MCD and the police missionary.

The Bench also directed the Solicitor General G E Vahanvati to file a reply as to how the Centre intends to provide infrastructural facilities to meet the requirements of the 2021 master plan.
