Defending champions US, with Jessica Beard, Natasha Hastings, Ashley Spencer and Francena McCorory running, finished second in 3:20.41.

The Americans ran without Allyson Felix, who tore her right hamstring in the 200 final on Friday.

Britain earned bronze in 3:22.61.
