Varanasi: The RSS on Saturday lashed out at Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad and leaders of other "secular parties" for seeking clemency for the 2001 Parliament attack mastermind Mohammad Afzal Guru.
The RSS said the sympathy shown to him was tantamount to undermining the judicial system.
"The irresponsible statements by responsible leaders like Azad and others showing sympathy for the mastermind of the Parliament attack case was an attempt to undermine our judicial system and to devalue the valour of the security personnel who laid down their lives fighting terrorism," RSS spokesman Ram Madhav told reporters in Varanasi.
Condemning the demand for clemency for Guru by several political parties and other people, he asked them to also spare a thought for the family members and relatives of those killed in the terror attack.
The execution of the Parliament attack case would render justice to all of us who have suffered at the hands of the terrorists and would be a fitting example of the fate of such
elements at the hands of our judicial system," Madhav said.
Referring to the ongoing peace process between India and Pakistan, the RSS spokesman asked the Government to attack terror camps across the border to dismantle the "breeding ground of terrorist and subversive activities" aimed at our India.
Only a direct intervention by the Centre could break the back of the terrorists functioning across the border, he said and added that it was an opportune time to do so.
The Government should also make intensified diplomatic campaign abroad against Pakistan to bring to the attention of the international community Islamabad's support to terrorism, he said.
The RSS spokesman also took a dig at the joint mechanism between India and Pakistan to deal with terrorism.
"The mechanism is unworkable as it is a common knowledge that Islamabad supported terrorism in our country," he said.
Demanding coordinated and effective steps to deal with terrorism, Madhav said the Government should provide high-level training to the security agencies and armed forces to tackle militancy.
He criticised the "secularist political forces" for their "soft" attitude at the subversive elements and votebank politics. Madhav flayed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav in particular, for allegedly expressing sympathy for the banned outfit SIMI.
