The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all trade unions of Anglo French Textile (AFT) mills has urged the central government to grant a financial aid of Rs 500 crores for revival of textile mills in the Union territory
In a memorandum to the Prime Minister, JAC president V S Abisegam stated that `500 crores is necessary to modernize the 3 textile mills as per market needs at an estimate of `300 crores for AFT Mills and `200 crores for Swadeshi and Bharathi mills. This would help in generating employment opportunity and earn revenue.
Already the trade unions have prevailed upon the Chief minister to approach the centre for financial aid for comprehensive modernization. He stated that despite the plans drawn up by the AFT mill administration to derive finance from selling the idle assets of AFT mill and reduce the staff strength, yet it would not suffice in reviving the mill.
