CHENNAI: Lankan refugees at the Chengalpattu special camp commemorated the massacre that took place in Mullivaikal and other areas when the war between the Lankan army and the LTTE was at its pinnacle in 2009, through special poojas and prayers offered for the souls of the victims to rest in peace. All 31 refugees who took part in the event were moved to tears during the commemoration. They observed a candle-light vigil with silent prayers. A refugee from the camp said that over 1.3 lakh Lankan Tamils were brutally killed in the heavy shelling by the Lankan army. “Though the figures of the international agencies and the Lankan government contradict each other, the fact remains that our friends and relatives were killed,” he said.“Even though the war is officially over, there are several thousand Tamils still in holding camps. They should be allowed to return to their land and live free,” he said.
