CHENNAI: The students of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School had an opportunity to pay homage to the relic of Saint John Bosco, also known as Don Bosco, here Monday.The casket, which holds the relic, the right hand of the Saint, was brought to the school in a solemn procession, escorted by horse-drawn chariots, a guard of honour by the Don Bosco Cubs and a band comprising 200 students. The parade started on Casa Major Road and was taken to the high school. It was finally brought to the primary school auditorium.Students from all the classes were given the opportunity to file past the casket, which holds a wax replica of the saint in which his right arm is embedded. Rector and Correspondent of Don Bosco School, Father John Alexander, said, “We want the students to have the chance to venerate the founder of our institution. The casket will be kept here, and at 4 pm, the past pupils, parents, night-school students and the public will have the opportunity to offer prayers to him.” Among chants of ‘Hail Mary’ and the Lord’s Prayer, the students, teachers and staff of the institution paid floral tributes to the Saint. The teachers also took an oath in the name of Don Bosco, reaffirming their commitment to the cause of education.
