THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Cabinet has decided to ask the PSC to once again extend the validity of various ranklists till April 30, 2012, in view of the fact that no government vacancies have been filled in the year owing to the pension date unification process implemented last year. Briefing mediapersons on the cabinet decisions, Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said that the request is being made to the PSC, after it had rejected an earlier plea. ‘’There is no justification in denying jobs to youths by raising technicalities,’’he said. The cabinet also gave its approval to regularise the services of 912 conductors in the KSRTC, who were selected for the PSC unadvised list of 2001 and were still continuing is service. Likewise, temporary drivers, conductors and mechanical wing staff totalling 2,474 persons and who had put in a minimum service of 10 years will be given permanent posting. The temporary training period of 1,200 constables of the Armed Police Battalion has been extended for a year with retrospective effect from February 18. It was also decided to provide out-of-turn jobs to the dependents of those who die in harness, Chandy said. The existing services of the consultancy firm for the Japanese-aided drinking water project has been extended and the fee has been revised from Rs 112.2 crore to Rs 133.29 crore. The wages of the entire staff of the KWA has been revised. A corporation will be formed for pottery workers. A sum of Rs 10 lakh will be earmarked for bund repair works in the ‘C’ block paddy field of Kuttanad, which was recently submerged after a breach. A sum of Rs 55 lakh will be sanctioned for providing compensation to paddy growers in the belt, he added. The cabinet also decided to provide a financial assistance of Rs 5 lakh each to the families of Remya and Vineetha, the two Malayalee nurses who died in the recent fire at a Kolkata hospital.The names of the two nurses will be recommended for bravery awards and a job each will be provided to a member of the families of the deceased.
