CHENNAI: The Prince of Arcot Mohammed Abdul Ali on Sunday hosted a delegation of 14 ministers, officials and dignitaries of the Malaysian state of Sarawak. The delegation was led by Sarawak Chief Minister Abdul Taib Mahmud, and Sarawak first lady Ragad Waleed Alkurdi Taib. Speaking at the event, the Prince of Arcot and Abdul Taib Mahmud underlined the good relations between India and Malaysia and called for increased engagement and bilateral ties. Taib’s visit was primarily aimed at visiting universities in Tamil Nadu and Thiruvananthapuram, which offer technical and engineering education, and explore the possibility of exchange of faculty, students and information.“Even if we implement all our plans, there will still be a shortage of 25,000 places a year on both the education and job market fronts. That can be met through our cordial ties with India,” said Abdul Taib. “That is especially true of TN. Around 70 per cent of the Tamil population has its roots in TN.” The Prince of Arcot too stressed the need to build upon the relations. “...I pray that the cordial relations continue and the bilateral ties grow,” said Prince Mohammed Abdul Ali.
