Pravin Mahajan testifies, denies shooting Pramod
Pravin denied shooting his brother, but agreed to surrendering to police.

New Delhi: Surrounded by a posse of policemen Pravin Mahajan entered court on Monday. Everyone present there expected a predictable day in Room No. 55 of the Sessions Court in Mumbai, that is hearing the murder case of BJP leader Pramod Mahajan.

The court room had Judge SP Davare presiding over affairs with Pravin wearing a long purple close-neck kurta, with a fresh hair cut.

That was until Judge SP Davare read out Rekha Mahajan's statement where she had identified Pravin as the accused.

And when the Judge asked Pravin Mahajan what he though of Rekha’s statement, he said, “False.”

The Judge then read servant Mahesh Wamkhede's statement, “I heard phat-phat-phat and saw Pravin Mahajan with a pistol in hand.”

To that, Pravin replied, "False".

Ironically, while Pravin denied everything else he agreed to the fact that on April 22 last year, he had gone to the Worli police Station and given himself up and also surrendered his .32 bore Browning pistol.

The confusing reactions to the witnesses statement continued:

- He accepted that he was wearing a green shirt and a jeans that day but said Rekha's statement about the same was false.

- He accepted that he owned a gun but held that the servant and Rekha's statement identifying the gun was false.

- He accepted the fact that he had a pistol in working order and had bought ammunition for it. But replied with a "I can’t say" to the ballistic report which said it was recently fired.

What's your reaction?
