Pope’s X-mas message, say ‘no’ to homosexuality
He urged everyone to protect the human beings against self-destruction.

New Delhi: Just a day before Christmas the Pope's year end speech to the church leaders has angered gay and lesbian groups.

Pope Benedict said on Monday that saving humanity from homosexual or transsexual behaviour was just as important as saving the rainforest from destruction.

The pope not only reiterated Roman Catholic Church's opposition to homosexual behavior but has also said that the order of creation should be respected and defined the nature of the human being as man and woman.

He outlined a part of the Church's mission as to protect the human beings against self-destruction.

Speaking to members of the Vatican, the pope repeated the Roman Catholic Church's opposition to homosexuality, saying that it could destroy humanity. “It is not beyond metaphysics when the church speaks of the nature of the human being as a man and a woman and demands that this order of creation be respected. The rainforest demands our protection but mankind does not deserve it any less,” Pope said.

These words angered gay rights activists around the world. However, the Vatican spokesman clarified that the Pope did not intend to offend homosexual and transgender people
