Chandigarh: The Election Commission of India (ECI) would set a date after the announcement of Lok Sabha elections for camps at all polling stations across the country where eligible persons could get enrolled as voters.
Besides, those enrolled could get any error in the voters' list rectified in these camps, Dr Alok Shukla, Deputy Election Commissioner, ECI, said, after reviewing the arrangements for the Lok Sabha elections at a meeting with District Election Officers (DEOs) of Haryana at Haryana Niwas said.
To ensure that more people come to vote, Shukla has asked DEOs to set up facilities like drinking water, ramp and toilets at polling stations, with the help of NGOs and social workers.
Video-recording and web-casting should be done at sensitive polling stations to identify miscreants, he said. In case of any problem at a polling station, the Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) would be deposited at a separate counter to identify the EVM later.
He directed the Excise Department to check the stock of liquor at all godowns after the announcement of elections and, if possible, take report of daily usage. He also directed HARTRON and NIC to update the data related to officers concerned with elections.
Officers were told to coordinate with the media and ensure timely dissemination of information so that all voters could remain updated with instructions and directions of the ECI. Speaking on the occasion, Chief Electoral Officer, Haryana, Shrikant Walgad said that model polling stations would be set up in every block.
A cycle rally would be organised by the State Election Commission on March 1, 2014 to create awareness about voting.
