Bangalore: In Bangalore, a revolt has been brewing within the police department. This after a senior IPS officer was accused of clicking a woman's picture at a coffee shop. The officer claims it's an attempt by senior officers from the police department to defame him.

Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) P Ravindranath and Bangalore Police Commissioner Raghavendra Auradkar have been caught in an open spat. Ravindranath was booked last week for allegedly clicking pictures of a woman on his mobile phone at a coffee shop in Bangalore without her permission. But the man in question denies the charges claiming he is being framed by the Bangalore Police Commissioner himself.

Dr P Ravindranath said, "There is certainly an element of something which seriously needs to be investigated. Absolutely. I have not doubt about it that Auradkar is behind it."

While Ravindranath offered to step down after being nabbed, the case has been handed over to the Karnataka CID. He was later transferred out.

Raghavendra Auradkar refused to make any comment on the allegations against him. He said, "the case has been transferred to the CID, and CID will investigate the case further."

The police versus police battle took to the streets as hundreds of Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP) constables staged a protest in support of Ravindrananth. But the state government tried to play down the revolt among the men in khaki.

KJ George, Karnataka Home Minister said, "It was an unfortunate incident, but all of them they are not KSR people, there was public, they were also there, bystanders were there, relatives of the police people."

High drama continued as Ravindranath insisted on being arrested. He has now brought in the caste angle filing a complaint against the Commissioner under the SC/ST Act. Ravindranath is a Dalit and a native of Andhra Pradesh. The Police Commissioner is a local Kannada Brahmin.

The state government has dismissed the rumours that the Bangalore Police Commissioner would be transferred following the issue. But the coffee shop incident in Bangalore has brought out the differences within the top bosses of the police department and how this could potentially affect the morale of the lower ranks.
