Kulgam: A police officer was shot dead by terrorists on Thursday in Jammu and Kashmir's Kulgam district. Terrorists have been trying to infiltrate into Indian territory ever since the worst ever floods hit the state in September. The incident also comes in wake of repeated ceasefire violations by Pakistan along the LoC and international border. Shelling from the neighbouring country has left over 95 people injured in the month of October alone including 13 security personnel. Around 30,000 people have fled their homes to avoid the shelling, leaving 113 hamlets deserted in the border areas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was touring the state on Thursday on the occasion of Diwali. He met the soldiers in Siachen and later spend time with flood victims in Srinagar.
