HYDERABAD: As a safety measure to prevent any untoward incidents on the occasion of Diwali, city police have beefed up security and have kept a tab on those who have been previously involved in anti-social activities. This apart, police have also kept a close watch on the gambling menace that would possibly be at its peak during the festival. "We are keeping a watch on clubs and card rooms and also on places where there gambling is possible to take place," city police commissioner A K Khan said.Bursting of firecrackers on public roads and places and bursting of sound- emitting crackers between 10 p.m to 6 a.m has been banned from October 25 to 28.Similarly, bandobast and traffic arrangements are being made at temples, markets and shopping areas in the city to facilitate peaceful Diwali celebrations. Local police have been instructed to pay special attention to prevent fire hazards and accidents in fireworks shops by insisting shopkeepers to take adequate fire-fighting precautions.Managements of shopping complexes, business establishments, educational institutions and others have been instructed not to invite celebrities for promotional events or programmes at public places in the city without prior permission or intimation to the local police as such events might create traffic snarls.
