New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday spoke to Nepal's Prime Minister-designate Girija Prasad Koirala on telephone and assured India's "full support and cooperation" to the Himalayan Kingdom.

"The Prime Minister conveyed the best wishes of the people of India to the people of Nepal," Prime Minister's Media Adviser Sanjaya Baru said.

Nepal's Parliament, which met on Friday for the first time in four years after King Gyanendra reinstated it, proposed a legislation to hold elections for a constituent assembly that could curtail powers of the monarch, a key demand of the Maoists, and a ceasefire with the rebels.

84-year-old Prime Minister-designate Koirala could not attend Parliament session due to ill health.

His swearing-in might take place on Saturday depending on his health.
