THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The team led by State Mentor Sam Pitroda will present 10 business projects in the next 60 days. This was announced by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy after holding a discussion on the projects proposed by the Pitroda team here on Monday. The team will meet in the first or second week of August. The five projects will be from coastal shipping, knowledge city, ayurveda, e-governance and waste management sectors.All the projects will be implemented under Public-Private Participation models. Earlier, 10 models were selected by the Mentor and among them vocational training, health insurance, high-speed rail corridor, using creative potential of retired work force and modernisation of traditional industries will be undertaken under the leadership of the State Government. The first phase is expected to be completed by 2014. Coastal shipping is the first among this. Out of the total transport, water transport constitutes 43 per cent in Europe and 15 per cent in the US. ‘’The best example in this regard is the state of Gujarat,’’ said Sam Pitroda.However, he added that he did not consider the state as a good model for development. He also said that Thiruvananthapuram was the ideal location for the proposed Knowledge City which intends to facilitate a combination of modern and traditional medicinal forms with traditional mathematical heritage of the state. He said other places can also be considered if there are more than one Knowledge City.A core group was also formed for the coordination of all the projects with Chief Secretary K Jayakumar, Planning Board vice-chairman K M Chandrasekhar, Sam Pitroda, Economic adviser to the Chief Minister Shafi Mather and Finance Secretary V P Joy and Planning Secretary Subbratha Biswas as members.
