ONCHIYAM: Onchiyam, a Communist bastion known for the eight martyrs who sacrificed their lives in a police firing in 1948, is still witnessing incessant flow of hundreds of people to the residence of slain leader T P Chandrasekharan, even after 10 days of his murder. Hundreds, including CPM activists, are flocking to his residence at Ambalapparambu in Onchiyam to express solidarity to the family of the leader who scripted a new history by floating Revolutionary Marxist Party after quitting the CPM. Majority of visitors form CPM workers from its stronghold areas and those who have stepped down from the party. People who left the CPM for disagreement with the policies from Shoranur, Ottapalam, Neeleswaram, Thalikulam and Kannur are among the visitors. Most of them expressed their anger over the brutal killing of T P Chandrasekharan on May 4, said RMP youth wing leader K K Jayan. All shared the grief and extended support to Chandrasekahran’s wife Rama, son Abhinand and other family members. “We came to share our feeling of solidarity with the grieving members of TP’s family,” said a visitor, a member of a group of 21 from Ottapalam on Monday. The members of the group, headed by Ottapalam Municipal councillors M Murali and A P Latha, were once activists of the CPM and office-bearers of its feeder organisations with the CPM Ottapalam area committee. Owing to the differences in views, they left the organisation and now remain independent without joining hands with any political party. “Due to the decadence, the CPM lost rule in Ottapalam Municipality, Anangady and Lakkidy grampanchayats in Palakkad district,” said M Murali. Many CPM activists and leaders who were associated with T P when he was the leader of SFI and DYFI and the CPM workers who have different opinion on the brutal killing visited the leader’s house in the past seven days, said Jayan. C Balan, secretary of the Nochad branch committee, which is a stronghold of the CPM and the native place of CPM district secretary T P Ramakrishnan, also visited the residence on Monday. People from Nochad branch committee accompanied him.“From the day of TP’s demise, hundreds are visiting his residence. Even after 10 days the flow has not reduced,” said TP’s father-inlaw, K K Madhavan.
