New Delhi: After Joaquim Carvalho's resignation as India's hockey coach, several experts have asked for Ric Charlesworth to be elevated to that position.
Charlesworth, who is currently the technical advisor to the IHF, spoke to CNN-IBN from Australia and said if Indian hockey doesn't embrace change now, it never will.
"I expected it (the change) to be there, but it didn't eventuate. My presence wasn't certainly going to make a difference, but it was always part of the plan, that I would be there and for some reason, that didn't happen," Charlesworth revealed.
"I'm not aware why. I'm sure that people didn't want me there, I'm not sure who they were exactly," he added.
"I think if this (not qualifying for Olympics) is not a catalyst for change, nothing will be in India, because it's very disappointing for the athletes, who have missed a chance for the Olympics, and for the nation that won't be represented," Charelsworth said.
"India should look at what it has been doing and understand that what it's been doing in the past isn't enough, and set about putting a very good team on the field in London (for the 2012 Olympics)," Charlesworth told CNN-IBN.
