New Delhi: The deadlock between parents and schools in Delhi over the steep hike in fees continues.
Tuesday was the last date for paying up fee arrears, but many parents have refused to pay.
A day after the deadline for paying up the school fee arrears, a parent, Manish Sisodia says he will not relent. Like most other parents, he is angry with the way the schools arbitrarily increased fees.
Manish Sisodia said, "I want to make sure that the school does becomes more transparent. I want a complete look at what's the breakdown of the figure they have quoted in the circular."
The fee hike controversy reached the High Court a week ago when the court questioned the very basis of the fee hike. Meanwhile the anger amongst parents has reached violent proportions with schools blackmailing parents and parent associations unrelenting, the deadlock continues.
A government order dated February 2009 direct parents to pay up by 31st March but parents simply ask one question...Are schools justified in arm twisting parents by withholding report cards of parents who have not been able to pay up.
School Association Head SL Jain "It’s a pressure tactic that some schools might have used. We need the money or else we will not be able to pay the teachers in time."
With no clear solution in sight, Delhi's education minister is singing the same old song.
Delhi Education Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely said, “We will make sure the parents do not get affected.”
With elections around the corner, some political parties are rallying behind the parents, but even that has done little to break the impasse on the ground.
