Lahore: Senior Pakistani nuclear scientist Dr Farooq Ahmed who had closely worked with disgraced nuclear scientist Dr Abdul Qadeeer Khan has been released by Pakistani authorities after being in detention for more than 30 months.

Dr Ahmed's son, Asim confirmed his father’s release and said his condition was satisfactory. “It is true that my father has returned home,” said Asim.

Family sources further said that Dr Farooq’s house has been placed under heavy security and nobody has been allowed to meet him till now. He has also been directed to not meet people, reports The Dawn.

Dr Farooq and other scientists have been asked to sign an undertaking that they would not leak any information about the debriefing session.

They have also been told not to disclose any secret official code or password or any sketch, plan, model, article, note, document or information relating to Pakistan’s nuclear project to anyone.

Dr Farooq was picked up from Islamabad on November 27, 2003, along with two colleagues, Dr Saeed and Dr Chuhan, for ‘debriefing’.

Dr Farooq had worked closely with Dr Khan and was accused of selling centrifuges and other hardware used in enrichment of uranium to Libya.
