KOCHI: The effort of the agriculture department to provide organic vegetables to the public at a reasonable rate is going awry. The project, kick-started in 2006, was going on in full swing till 2007. Now, the building lay abandoned and weeded. When contacted, the authorities did not seem to be aware of this. Apart from the building, which is a fixed asset, the department also has a fund of Rs 5 lakh for this project at hand.“There were many societies involved in the sale of organic vegetables and fruits. However, as the societies could not take this project much further. This resulted in the failure of this project,” said E P Vijayan, assistant director (marketing), agriculture department. Moreover, the authorities are also clueless about what to do with the fund. “We are planning to hand over the fund to Maradu market as we have an outlet there.
