NABARANGPUR: All arrangements are in place for the Umerkote bypoll on Wednesday.Returning Officer Narendra Pradhan informed mediapersons on Saturday that two officers have been posted at Raighar and Umerkote blocks to keep a vigil on violation of code of conduct. While James Ekka, project director of DRDA, will be in charge of Umerkote, Rashmi Ranjan Sahu would look into the affairs of Raighar block. Deputy Collector Nihar Ranjan Dash, who is also in-charge of the bypoll, said 750 polling personnel had been trained for the election. The Umerkote Assembly segment has been divided into 17 sectors and as many sectoral officers have been appointed to supervise the polling. While 195 EVMs were commissioned in the presence of representatives of the contesting parties on Friday, five executive magistrates would be deployed on the day of polling. In the wake of the Election Commission’s directive on hourly monitoring of the poll, the administration would deploy four software engineers from BHEL, Hyderabad, at Umerkote on Wednesday. An online monitoring system will be put in place at each booth and presiding officers will send the hourly status of polling to the Election Commission through SMS. Campaigning ends on Monday evening.
