DAVANGERE: The Centre has opened 16 banking ombudsmen offices in the country for receiving complaints relating to delays in disbursement of pensions, family pensions and pension arrears, said Minister of State for Finance Namo Narain Meena.Replying a question tabled by Davangere Lok Sabha Member Siddeshwar about settling grievances of pensioners in banks, Meena said in 2010-11 banking ombudsmen received 71,274 complaints, including 5,810 complaints related to pension problems.All these complaints were settled under the Banking Ombudsmen Scheme 2006, he said.The RBI had issued guidelines to all banks to pay a penalty of 2 per cent for pensioners in case of a delay in payment of pensions, and Central pension processing centres had been opened by banks to deal with these problems, Meena added.
