New Delhi: Democratic Presidential nominee Barack Obama met with Hillary Clinton in Washington earlier on Friday.

Obama is also expected to meet prospective Vice-Presidential candidate Senator Jim Webb during the day.

“The vice-presidency is the most important decision that I'll make before I'm president and it's something that I take very seriously. We've got a committee that's made up of some wonderful people and they are going to go through the procedure and vet and talk to people and get recommendations. I will meet with a range of people and I'll ultimately make a decision,” said Obama.

Reports say that Hillary is expected to pledge her support to Obama but she is also likely to suspend her campaign instead of dropping out altogether.

That means she will technically remain a candidate, and will hold on to her delegates, further pressurising Obama to take her on the vice presidential ticket. Obama, however, is stressing for unity in the democratic camp.

“I think Senator Clinton, right now, is in the same position I'm in - which is we just completed 54 contests. We want to catch our breath and take stock of where we are and I'm sure she has to do the same thing and she and I are going to have a conversation not through surrogates or through the press, to talk about how we move forward, join forces to make sure we're successful in November and so there's going to be a lot of time for that,” he said.

And now there are strong indications that former rival Hillary Clinton is all set to bury the hatchet. In a letter to her supporters Hillary has all but backed Obama.

"On Saturday, I will extend my congratulations to Senator Obama and my support for his candidacy. This has been a long and hard-fought campaign, but as I have always said, my differences with Senator Obama are small compared to the differences we have with Senator McCain and the Republicans. I have said throughout the campaign that I would strongly support Senator Obama if he were the Democratic Party's nominee, and I intend to deliver on that promise. I will be speaking on Saturday about how we can rally the party together behind Senator Obama. The stakes are too high and the task before us too important to do otherwise," she wrote in her letter.
