CHENNAI: Now, it’s not just house owners or landlords who might require details of their prospective tenants. As a latest development, the police are also gathering details of tenants from across the city to create a database. The massive task of maintaining such a database starts with the house owner, who is required to furnish specific details of their existing or prospective tenants. Details include name, age, father’s name, permanent address, occupation details, present address, details of co-occupants, previous residential address and details of an ID proof. All these details should be given along with photographs of the tenants and the name of the landlord, occupation details and residential address. Police said the forms to be filled in and submitted are available at the city police commissioner’s office, local police stations, traffic police offices and can also be downloaded from the Chennai city police link in the Tamilnadu police website. Police have instructed the house owners to submit such filled in forms in the local police stations of their respective jurisdiction.Though no deadline on submission of the forms were specified, those who do not submit the details will face legal action. Even those who illegally rent out their houses and don't submit details, will face the same action, police said. In case of tenants vacating the house after submission of the form, the house owners needed to inform the cops, police said. “Details of all the occupants along with photographs need to be submitted even if there are many,” a police official said.
