BANGALORE: The government has issued a showcause notice to Belgaum city corporation asking why it should not be superseded for its alleged failures in conducting its affairs in accordance with the Karnataka Municipal Act, Urban Development Minister S Sureshkumar said here on Wednesday. Speaking to reporters, he said the government has obtained a detailed report from the commissioner of Belgaum City Corporation about the omissions and commissions in conducting its daily business which, prima facie, constitutes violation of various provisions of the Municipal Act. “For instance, it is mandatory for the corporation to hold meetings once in a month, but no such meeting has been held for the last four months. Similarly, the corporation is to spend the state government funds as per the rules, but there are instances of not adhering to any such rules. The conduct of the mayor and deputy mayor, besides some of the members, constitute violation of the Municipal Act,” he explained.
